Contains 10315 acres or 6 perch of which 1049 acres are bog and rough ground. 102 acres 2 rood 3 perch of Lough Ramor are included in the parish. The soil is pretty good. The principal proprietors are Lord Farnham, Major Nesbitt of Crossdoney and The Hon. & Revd. Mr. Fitzgerald, Diocese of Kilmore. The market town of Ballyjamesduff is situated in this parish.
Castlerahan
Contains 504 statute acres about 80 of which are bog and rough ground. It is Church land belonging to the Bishop of Kilmore and held under lease renewable every 7 years by William Mayne Esqr. of Dublin and set by him to undertenants. Rent is from £1.8. to £1.15. per acre. Bog is free. Size of farms is from 3 1/2 to 18 acres. Soil generally is of a pretty good loam but very stoney and produces middling crops of oats and potatoes. Manure is lime and dung; the former can be laid on the ground for about 14d. per barrel. Co. Cess is from 1s. 4d. to 1s. 6d. per acre per 1/2 yearly. In Religion all are Roman Catholic. On the East side of the townland convenient to the boundary is a Protestant Church which will accommodate about 250 persons. Near the church are the remains of an old Roman Catholic Chapel. Near the Church is a fort called Castlerahan fort.
