Dromcrow
The property of H. Swanzy Esqr. Leased to 6 occupying tenants during 3 lives or 31
years at 27/6 per acre. Co. Cess is paid with Carvagh at 2/- per acre annually. No tithes are paid at present. Turbary is sufficient. Inhabitants, amounting to 47 in number, are all Roman Catholics. The usual crops are oats, potatoes and flax. A lake in the E. side of this townland abounds with perch only. One ancient fort is in this townland and there is a well beside this fort in which it is said trout have been seen about 20 years ago, only by one person which makes this statement doubtful. The water must have some remarkable property as one of the inhabitants stated he saw a frog jump into the well and before it reached the bottom it was dead. The water has been tasted and is considered nothing more than spring water.
