Banagher
Property of Mr. Richardson. The agent is G. Knipe. Esqr. The yearly rent per acre
being most disproportionate varying from 6s. 6d. to 26s. It is under the Tithe Comp. Act. The principal religion is the Roman Catholic. There are two circles in the townland slightly raised about 2 feet above the level of the ground. The most Westward is about 1 chain in diameter, the other 2. There is a fort now converted into a garden near the larger circle. In the centre of the larger circle is a small eminence on which stands the remains of a Druid's altar. About 10 chains distant is another of those altars. Some say that these circles are burying grounds but from the Hill being nothing more than huge rock appearing in many places above the surface and the greatest depth of soil only 8 inches this completely does away with the assertion.
