The town of Shercock stands in the West side of the townland in which stands the parish church. There is also a market house in which is held the Petty Sessions every fortnight. There is a Police station of 6 men including one sergt. Market day is Tuesday and there is a trigl. station in this townland standing on the South side of a fort 454 feet above low water. There are also three portions of Loughs viz. Lough Sillan, 309 feet, Muddy Lough, 311 feet, Steepleton's Lough, 315 feet, above low water.
